The Sweet Once Fit
for Emperors,
Now Yours to Savour
Shahi Daraba is a slow-cooked, ghee-rich sweet handcrafted from a recipe carried down through generations — reborn today with the same fire, patience and ilaichi-kissed flavour that made it legendary.

A Sweet That Shaped a City's History
Daraba traces its roots to 17th-century Burhanpur, during the reign of Nizamul Mulk of the Nizam Dynasty. As the city built the 9-kilometre Parkola Wall to defend against the Maratha empire, this pure, energy-rich sweet was crafted to keep the workers nourished and strong. What began as labourers' rations soon became a beloved fixture at festive gatherings — and an inseparable part of Burhanpur's culinary heritage.
Circa 1630s
Under the reign of Nizamul Mulk, workers raising Burhanpur's 9-kilometre fortress wall are fuelled by a dense, ghee-rich sweet — the first Daraba.
A City's Celebration
Daraba becomes a cherished part of Burhanpur's food palate, inseparable from the grand mela at Satiara Ghat on the Tapti River — where devotees and locals savour it during the nine-day festivities.
